A coin lands heads half the time, so a fair price would be 2.00 either side. The board will offer you something closer to 1.90, and that gap is the operator's margin on a genuinely random event. There is no team news, no pitch report and no captain's record that changes the odds of a coin, which makes the toss the one market on the card where research is worth exactly nothing.

The related market — which side the toss winner chooses — is different and genuinely predictable. In Dhaka and Chattogram evening games, chasing has been the overwhelming preference for years, and the price usually reflects that so thoroughly that there is nothing left to take. Read it as information rather than as a bet.

First-six-over runs is decided by a small number of things you can actually check before the coin goes up: two fielders outside the circle instead of four, the opening pair's approach, whether the new ball is likely to move under lights, and the size of the square boundaries. A humid evening at Sher-e-Bangla with a slow surface produces a very different first six overs from the same fixture in Sylhet.

Toss markets settle within a minute or two of the coin. Powerplay totals settle at the end of the sixth over, not at the innings break, which matters if you were planning to reuse the funds. On our account a completed match winner market settled in a median of nine minutes after the last ball, while player markets waiting on the official scorecard took twenty to forty.

A shortened match does not shorten the powerplay proportionally in every competition, and a bet placed on a six-over total in a game later reduced to ten overs a side may be voided or may stand depending on the book's own rule. Read that clause once, before a wet evening rather than during one — it is the single most common source of an argument that the player always loses.
